Farm Animal Services

At Kowie Vet Clinic, we go beyond routine check-ups to offer a comprehensive range of specialised veterinary services designed to meet the diverse needs of your animals, from livestock and horses to cherished wildlife. Our experienced team is equipped with advanced tools and expertise to provide everything from essential pregnancy testing and calving/lambing assistance to crucial mobile diagnostics, parasite control, and even complex wildlife darting and translocation. Whether in our clinic or out in the field, we’re committed to ensuring the health and well-being of your animals with dedicated and professional care.

parasite control in herds

Parasite control:

Our team of veterinarians can help you formulate a plan to ensure your herd or individual animals are treated for internal & external parasites. This can include examinations of the animals as well as faecal floats to look for worm eggs.

Darting & translocation:

We offer chemical immobilisation of wild animals to help with relocation, collaring, wound repair, minor surgical procedures, horn measurements and breeding soundness examinations. We also offer hospital care for small wild animals if necessary.

Pregnancy testing, calving & lambing, c-sections:

Our veterinarians use rectal palpations, ultrasound or blood tests to determine pregnancy at different stages of gestation. They are also able to assist if any complications arise during calving or lambing, including delivering the babies using c-section.

mobile X-ray

Mobile x-ray & ultrasound & endoscopy:

We are equipped to offer x-ray, ultrasound & endoscopy services to any large animal patient, or any patient that cannot be brought into the clinic. Our veterinarians will also offer sedation if necessary to keep the patient calm & safe.

Postmortem

Postmortem:

If an animal dies unexpectedly or without known cause, our veterinarians can look at the body & organs to investigate the reason for death. In doing so, future deaths can hopefully be prevented.

Laboratory testing:

Blood, urine & fecal testing can be done in our clinic laboratory. If we cannot do the tests in-house, we work with outside laboratories to offer a wide variety of tests, including disease & DNA testing.

minor surgical procedures

Minor surgical procedures:

Our veterinarians are equipped to do minor surgical procedures in the field. These include but are not limited to wound management, enucleations, castrations, stitch ups, prolapse corrections, abscess drainage & skin tumour removal.
